Lake Achensee, also known as the "Tyrolean Sea", is the largest lake in Tyrol. It lies at around 930 m above sea level, nestled between the Karwendel mountains in the west and the Rofan in the east. The crystal-clear water, impressive mountain scenery and excellent infrastructure make the region a popular place to live and vacation all year round.
The municipality of Eben am Achensee comprises the villages of Maurach, Pertisau and Buchau and has a population of around 3,100. The village is ideally developed and offers grocery stores, restaurants, doctors, a pharmacy, schools and kindergartens as well as a direct connection to public transportation with bus connections to Jenbach (train station, approx. 15 min.). The nearest larger towns are Schwaz, Wörgl and Innsbruck.
In summer, the region offers a wide range of leisure activities such as water sports on the lake (sailing, surfing, SUP, swimming) or hiking, climbing and mountain biking in the Karwendel and Rofan Nature Park, and much more.
In winter, there are several ski areas to choose from, including the family-friendly Rofan ski area (with access directly in Maurach), as well as the nearby ski area in Achenkirch. The region also offers over 200 km of cross-country ski trails, winter hiking trails and toboggan runs. For larger ski areas, there is a fast connection to the Zillertal - e.g. to the Hochzillertal/Hochfügen or Zillertal Arena ski areas (journey time from Achensee approx. 30-45 min.).
